Choosing Cobalt for a shaded lawn

Shade performance is a key reason to consider Cobalt for a lawn that receives limited sunlight. Tell us about the area you want to turf so we can discuss whether Cobalt suits your site.

For heavily shaded areas, send photos and an estimate of daily sun, along with your lawn area and suburb. Our Springwood team can discuss suitability and ordering arrangements for your project.

What is Cobalt Hybrid Buffalo grass?

Cobalt is a hybrid buffalo turf variety introduced to Australia by Australian Turf Solutions. It was developed by Dr Ambika Chandra at Texas A&M AgriLife using hybrid breeding techniques.

Australian Turf Solutions describes Cobalt as bred for drought and shade performance, winter colour retention and wear tolerance, with lower maintenance requirements. Results depend on the conditions at your site and how the lawn is established and maintained.

Read the official Cobalt variety information.

Choosing Cobalt for your lawn

Tell us where the lawn will be laid, how much sun and shade it receives, and whether it is for a family backyard, a new build or another landscaping project. This helps us discuss the variety and the ordering details that matter for your site.

For a new lawn base, our top dressing and turf underlay guide explains the difference between preparing ground for turf and dressing an existing lawn.
